The purpose of this website is to align specific information skills from the Empire State Information Fluency Continuum (ESIFC) with the inquiries in the New York State Social Studies Toolkit, so that Social Studies Teachers and Librarians can integrate the teaching of inquiry skills into the deep content learning of the inquiries.
The Social Studies inquiries are driven by compelling questions and supporting questions. The alignment has been developed to integrate with the supporting questions and activities. For each supporting question, a chart frames the teaching of information skills, practices, and assessments with an inquiry process.
This website is divided into three major sections. The first section is the Social Studies Alignment Charts. These include skills from the ESIFC, Social Studies Practices, and Common Core. The second section is assessments that can be used for each of the ESIFC skills (linked from the chart). These are available for download as Word documents. The final section is an inquiry process model with graphic organizer assessments that can be used for teaching the skills at each phase. Please contact us below if you have any questions or comments.
